Beginning Band
The Beginning Band at Franklin Park Middle School is made up of students who have never played a band instrument. We start with how to put the instrument together, basic care of the instrument, how to make a sound on the instrument, etc. Students have the opportunity to join band in the 4th grade, but can join in 5th and 6th as well. It is recommended that students start in 4th grade as they will be behind their classmates if they start in 5th or 6th grade.
Beginning Band meets in the mornings before school and occasionally after school. Please make the best effort to have your child at school on time. Brass Students meet on Monday, Percussion on Tuesday, Clarinets on Wednesday, Flutes on Thursday and Saxes on Friday.
Beginning Band students do receive a grade for beginning band. The grade is based on attendance and how much they practice. To get an "A" in band, they must practice 60 or more minutes each week and attend class. Attendence is worth 25 points and the practice sheet is worth 25 points. If the practice sheet is not turned in, the student will receive an zero for that week. Practice sheets are checked during the weekly lesson. If you have lost your practice sheet, they can be found here. I ask that the students have their parent/guardian sign the practice sheet each week, so parents, ask to see your child's practice sheet!
